Japanese Art Series

 

Japanese art has deep and complex historical roots. For centuries at a time, Japanese artists were disconnected from the rest of the world as Japan explored isolationist policies. However, in the 1860s Japan opened its markets and exploded onto the global art scene. The unique, unusual, and unexpected Japanese arts influenced the future impressionist movement in Europe and America 0n the 1870s.

 

 

This blog series will explore the wide ranging arts in Japan, why they exist and their links to culture, and how YOU can get involved with them. We will take you on a journey through manga, traditional painting ukiyo-e, architecture, calligraphy, origami, sculpture, fans, yukata and kimono, samurai masks, ikebana, kyudo and contemporary art, to name a few!
